Chapter History
Sydney HOG Chapter was conceived in late 2006 to coincide with the opening of its sponsoring dealer, Trivett Harley-Davidson In Waterloo.
The Chapter was composed and orchestrated by Peter Kelly from the Trivett team and a core group of volunteers who set up a committee, formalised a Ride Calendar, and "got the show on the road". In November 2006 the charter members of Sydney HOG enjoyed the Chapter's inaugural ride to Yarramalong Valley.
Led by Sydney HOG's foundation Director, Fred Madderom, the Committee sought to develop a Chapter that exemplified the HOG International ideology of riding and having fun. The first Sydney HOG meetings were held at the Graphic Arts Club in Surry Hills. A fantastic venue where members literally rode through the front doors and parked their motorcycles inside the club.
The monthly Tuesday night meetings grew from strength to strength in 2007 and members became interested in having a voice in the running of the Chapter. The Ride calendar was adapted to cater for the diverse and varying needs of Sydney HOG Chapter members. The later inclusion of half-day runs, full moon runs and weekends away augmented the existing schedule of Sunday and mid-week rides to a myriad of different destinations around greater Sydney.
Highlights of 2007
2007 highlights included the tri-state ride to the National HOG Rally in Nuriootpa, and the Chapter's first Anniversary run back to Yarramalong Valley.
Importantly, Sydney HOG adopted Father Chris Riley's ‘Youth Off The Streets' charity as the predominant beneficiary of the Chapter's charity work. We figured since riding our Harleys lifted our spirits, why not share it with young people who wouldn't normally get the opportunity and it might inspire them as well.
Sydney HOG continued to grow throughout 2007. Monthly Chapter meetings developed to the point where they have become one of the highlights of Sydney HOG membership attracting up to 60 members at each meeting.
2008
In January 2008, having outgrown the Graphic Arts Club, Sydney HOG moved its Tuesday night meeting location to the fabulous new ‘Wheels and Cupcake' café. Located in the Trivett building in O'Riordan Street, Alexandria,
Wheels and Cupcake was designed with Harley-Davidson owners in mind. The service is superb, the food is five-star, and the bar is, well... open! The café's balcony overlooks the parking area and with all those bikes to look at, the conversation is
never dull.
