2011 HOG Rally
Sydney Chapter - 2011 Australian HOG Rally, Margaret River,WA - 17-19th November 2011
Western Australia, here we come!
This year’s HOG Rally will be held on the other side of the continent in Margaret River, probably the longest ride we’ll ever do as a chapter.
Because most of us are unlikely to visit WA again on our bikes after this trip, we’ve decided to make it more than just a point-to-point ride through scenic roads – however much fun that might be. On this trip we’ll take the time to explore parts of Australia that most of us have never seen before, or may never see again.
We leave Sydney on Saturday November 5, heading south to Wagga, Mildura and Port Augusta, on our way to the Great Australian Bight and Ceduna. A two-day trip across the Nullarbor - with a night at a roadhouse smack-bang in the middle of this Australian legend – will see us well and truly inside Western Australia.
Using Esperance and Albany as our bases, we’ll explore the stunning beauty of south-east Western Australia – rugged coastline, wildlife, food and wine, and lots more besides. Albany is also a perfect place for partners to fly in and join us for the more relaxed part of the trip.
Margaret River, regarded as one of the world’s premier wine producing areas, is a perfect location for the 2011 HOG Rally. Our accommodation is well-located, close to amenities, with pool, sauna, spa and bar - just perfect for a dip at the end of a hot day.
After the Rally, it’s up to Perth, from where many of us will be freighting our bikes back to Sydney. Of course, there will still be some members who want to ride further because there’s a lot more to see. A final night in Perth together will allow one more chance to tell stories (and maybe even get in a touch of Karaoke for Fred.)
Trip accommodation is a mixture of reasonably priced motels and cabins, while multi-night stays spread throughout the trip will enable us to see and experience loads of Australia.
Each day’s ride is planned to cover a lot of ground without running us into the ground. The ride is challenging – 4200 km, including 1200 km across the Nullarbor Plain – but it will be rewarding.
We encourage all members to take the Advanced Rider Course before taking this trip.
