2010 HOG Rally
Sydney Chapter - 2010 Australian HOG Rally, MT Buller - 10-12th December 2010
This year, our ride to the 2010 Australian HOG Rally will offer a two (2) day ride down through some spectacular scenery and roads that have just got "Harley-Davidson" stamped all over them.
The Sydney Chapter 2010 HOG Rally ride will be a five (5) day / four (4) night affair, leaving Sydney on Thursday 9th December and returning to Sydney on Monday 13 December. This is a shorter ride than our normal rally ride, but with Christmas so close, time's a bit tighter than usual for many members. It means taking only three (3) days off work in that critical pre-Christmas period.
The trip down will take in the Southern Highlands, Canberra and Cooma, before we end up at Jindabyne, where we have the Station Resort all to ourselves for the night!
The next day, we'll wind through the Snowy Mountains on our way to the Victorian Alps on secondary roads that you've probably never been on before. You may know Thredbo or Khancoban, but Mt Beauty, Bright, and Whitfield offer a riding experience you're going to love. I know because a bunch of five Road Captains checked out the whole route on a reconnaissance ride to Victoria last weekend.
Although the Rally site is at Mt Buller, the available accommodation would have split us across many different places, making it really hard to stick together as a chapter. So what we're going to do is stay in beautiful Mansfield, at the foot of the mountain, and get the best of both worlds.
Our accommodation allows us to stay each night as a group, to really enjoy the social aspects of the annual HOG Rally trip. Mansfield Motel gives us a great base with newly-renovated rooms, undercover parking, BBQ facilities and a pool. We can head up to the rally site when we want to, and tour around the area when we want to do our own thing.
The rally itself will offer a great range of activities such as the Show'n'Shine, gymkhana, and the Thunder Run on the Sunday morning. If you've been to a HOG Rally before, you'll have a good idea of what's in store!
The town of Mansfield has great little cafes in the main street for breakfast each morning, and a great pub with really good food - all within a short walk from our motel. We will also hold a chapter-only BBQ at our motel on the Sunday night before heading for home the following morning.
Home on the Monday will be a trip straight up the freeway back to Sydney. (If enough members want to make this a two-day trip, we'll assign a couple of Road Captains to a longer itinerary. If this is of interest, talk to a Committee Member.)
We'll keep you posted by email with more details as they unfold.
I hope you can join us. As always, it's going to be a great trip!
